Update Files

This theme has certain admin styles to make the page editing look a little better. You can find them here: /wp-content/themes/my-theme-name/assets/admin/admin-styles.css

Before moving forward, you should look thru the functions.php file (/wp-content/themes/my-theme-name/functions.php) and update paths to js and css files as needed. It's already setup to enqueue scripts and fonts, but you'll need to update the paths to match your compiled css/js.

Start Styling

There is a file at the root of the site (/style-guide.php) that includes standard html elements. Edit it and update the links to match your final compiled css/js files. Then develop a base set of styles that work with that page (headings, form elements, etc). Do this instead of styling every element specifically in the block styling.

Emails

A default SMTP server has been setup to use on dev sites. It uses AWS's SWS service. It's sandboxed and only sends to verified email addresses. You only need to verify your email address 1 time. Don't verify client email addresses. See Chris Smith for help.

Challenge

Dedicated to caring for neglected, unhoused, and abused animals across Arizona, the Arizona Humane Society is hard at work, saving lives every day.

With so much time dedicated to these animals’ well-being, the Arizona Humane Society (AZHS) needed support developing and redesigning its website, azhumane.org.

Because Ideas Collide is passionate about giving back to the community and those in need, we felt a strong connection to the organization. Through consistent and transparent communication, we quickly became a trusted extension of the AZHS team, maximizing their budget, dreaming big, and achieving even bigger results.

Approach

The Ideas Collide team was tasked with creating a mobile-friendly site that incorporated best practices, new website standards, and a strong online presence that enhanced the user experience through an easy-to-navigate design.

Key objectives consisted of the following:

  • Increase brand awareness.
  • Place the Arizona Humane Society as a leader in the animal welfare sector.
  • Promote available adoptable pets.
  • Highlight diverse programs such as volunteer opportunities, foster support, veterinary clinics, pet resources, and animal cruelty prevention.

We sent our client a comprehensive questionnaire, identifying key objectives, targeted users, web functionality, and overall tactics to employ within the site. After aligning our objectives, we implemented new features for an easy-to-use, mobile-friendly website.

Results

This project was an exercise in best-practice application in UX/UI, ADA compliance, mobile friendliness, navigation, streamlined content, CTA placement, new content integration, and optimization for fundraising.

Along with a better user experience, the Arizona Humane Society saw visitors engage more with their new site. Session duration rose by 20% in 2023 compared to the previous year.

The Ideas Collide team approaches every project with a high level of integrity, which creates a positive impact on clients nationwide. Taking strong ownership of their space, we strive to exceed expectations throughout every client and team interaction. Through hard work and dedication, our team continues to elevate the Arizona Humane Society and educate them on new web technologies that can be integrated into their new site.
